Love story…

My husband Tommy and I met at Johnson Shoes. He was working there while finishing grad school, and I went in to get a pair of shoes for work. When he asked me out, and we first became great friends. Then, once we started dating, we knew really quickly that we were the one for each other.

We got engaged only eight months and married one year after meeting each other. He proposed to me at Mossbrae Falls right in front of the waterfall with our dogs playing around us. It was amazing and our marriage has really been wonderful so far. He’s truly my favorite person ever; other than our baby boy Owen, the newest member to the family who’s 6 months old.

I had such a wonderful experience, or I should say *experiences* with A|E with helping me find two dresses! We got married during Covid so things were not quite what we had always imagined, but we made the best of it.

The details of my ceremony that made it special were how private and intimate it was with only a small group of people there.

It ended up being really special and my dress fit perfectly. I felt really beautiful and I knew my husband was going to love it. He did!

My dog fell into the pool right as I was walking down the aisle for our ceremony and she came and sat on the train of my dress soaking wet just as the ceremony began. I thought it was absolutely amazing. The pictures of all of us laughing with my giant, soaking wet bullmastiff standing there all proud made the moment even better!

For the ceremony, I knew that I wanted a more vintage look for my dress. I wanted to feel very timeless & elegant, and my dress definitely suited that. Mary helped me for the better part of a day to try to find the perfect dress for my ceremony since I was so unsure what exactly I wanted. I ended up getting a mermaid, all lace gown that was absolutely perfect for the feel of our small ceremony.

We had originally planned to do our October 3, 2020 wedding and I had already found an amazing dress for that. Mary was our consultant and I wasn’t absolutely sure what I wanted, she was really patient about it. I tried on a dress I didn’t really like at all on the hanger but my best friend insisted I try it on. It turned out to be amazing; a big beautiful, long sleeve ball gown which was pretty much the opposite of what I thought I wanted.

I wanted to be what I called “a sparkly cupcake princess!” So I wore my ball gown and I actually had Janice in alterations add sparkle to the tulle in the bottom of my gown – it was absolutely perfect. I sparkled all day long just like I wanted!

With my reception dress I felt just like a beautiful princess. It was like fulfilling a little girl dream of mine to be so sparkly and beautiful for the day! My husband said I looked like I floated when I walked all day.

Both dresses are so opposite but were so amazing. I feel really lucky I got to pick out two wedding dresses and essentially have two weddings. It all turned out really great considering the circumstances of the pandemic.

The memories I will cherish from both days are really just the time spent with people we love. Everything has been so hard with the pandemic, and we weren’t allowed to see a lot of people that we all love for a long time. Finally having people together to celebrate and hug & give love and support was just so amazing. And the best part is we got to do our pregnancy announcement at our reception which was really special!

If there is any advice I can give to brides out there, it’s to not sweat the small stuff! I am a hairstylist and I’ve done lots and lots of weddings over the years. Sometimes I think getting caught up in small details of a wedding and being upset can really rob the bride and others of a great day full of memories and laughter. Wedding days almost never go exactly perfectly and when something does go wrong, try your best to just laugh at the situation and move on. A wedding day is about marrying someone you love. If at the end of the day, you are now married to the person you love, then everything went absolutely right!
